Letter to the Romans

Brothers and sisters: I know that good does not dwell in me, that is, in my flesh. The willing is ready at hand, but doing the good is not.
For I do not do the good I want, but I do the evil I do not want.
Now if (I) do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.
So, then, I discover the principle that when I want to do right, evil is at hand.
For I take delight in the law of God, in my inner self,
but I see in my members another principle at war with the law of my mind, taking me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members.
Miserable one that I am! Who will deliver me from this mortal body?
Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

for in your commands I trust.

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke

Jesus said to the crowds, “When you see a cloud rising in the west you say immediately that it is going to rain–and so it does;
and when you notice that the wind is blowing from the south you say that it is going to be hot--and so it is.
You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky; why do you not know how to interpret the present time?
Why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?
If you are to go with your opponent before a magistrate, make an effort to settle the matter on the way; otherwise your opponent will turn you over to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the constable, and the constable throw you into prison.
I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny."

St. Anthony Mary Claret(Archbishop (1807-1870))

SAINT ANTHONY MARY CLARET Claretian Archbishop and Founder (1807-1870) St. Anthony Claret founded the Claretians. Their schools and libraries trace back to his tireless missions. He was also a reformer and peacemaker. St. Anthony was ordained in 1835 after recovering from an illness. He preached successfully and championed the cause of the poor. In spite of his good works, secular and anti-clerical groups were scandalized. The threats made on St. Anthony's life caused his superiors to send him abroad. When he returned, he founded the Claretians. St. Anthony was elected archbishop of Cuba for his brilliant preaching and apostolic success. Before returning to Spain, he survived an assasination attempt. His reforms, which included public schools, credit unions and racial equality were good in the eyes of God, but wrongful in the eyes of some men. In 1857, St. Anthony was appointed confessor to Queen Isabella of Spain. While fulfilling his duties, he built hospitals, colleges and other institutes. Neither could forced exile prevent him frompreaching and pursuing missions for education. He passed away on October 24, 1870, at a Cistercian abbey in Fontfroide,Narbonne, Southern France.

St. Magloire(Bishop († c. 575))

SAINT MAGLOIRE Bishop ( c. 575) St. Magloire was born in Brittany toward the end of the fifth century. He was the cousin of St. Sampson. When he and Sampson came of an age, Magloire returned home and Sampson entered a monastery. Magloire's father, Amon, was miraculously cured of a dangerous disease through prayer. In thanksgiving, Magloire, Amon and Amon's wife gave their belongings to the poor and received the habit at Sampson's monastery. When Sampson was consecrated bishop, Magloire accompanied him in Armorica or Brittany. Magloire resigned his own bishopric at 70 years old and retired to a desert. Some time later, he transferred to the isle of Jersey. There, he founded another monastery and governed sixty monks. He passed away circa 575.
