Our Lady of Guadalupe - Feast
Book of Zechariah
2,14-17.Sing and rejoice, O daughter Zion! See, I am coming to dwell among you, says the LORD.
Many nations shall join themselves to the LORD on that day, and they shall be his people, and he will dwell among you, and you shall know that the LORD of hosts has sent me to you.
The LORD will possess Judah as his portion of the holy land, and he will again choose Jerusalem.
Silence, all mankind, in the presence of the LORD! for he stirs forth from his holy dwelling.
Book of Judith
13,18bcde.19.Blessed are you, daughter, by the Most High God,
above all the women on earth;
and blessed be the LORD God,
the creator of heaven and earth,
Your deed of hope will never be forgotten
by those who tell the might of God.
Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke
1,26-38.In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth,
to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin's name was Mary.
And coming to her, he said, "Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you."
But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.
Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus.
He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father,
and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end."
But Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?"
And the angel said to her in reply, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.
And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren;
for nothing will be impossible for God."
Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." Then the angel departed from her.
St. Valery(Abbot (565-622))
SAINT VALERY Abbot (565-622) St. Valery was born at Auvergne; and in his childhood kept his father's sheep. He was very young when he took the religious habit in the monastery of St. Antony. Seeking to progress in every virtue, St. Valery transferred to the more austere monastery of St. Germanus of Auxerre. He afterward transferred to that of Luxeuil, where he spent many years. St. Valery travelled into Neustria and baptized pagans with the cooperation of virtuous community leaders. More efficacious than his preaching were his prayers, penances and mortifications. In time, St. Valery assembled fervent disciples and laid the foundation of a monastery. St. Valery passed away on December 12, 622.
St. Finian(Bishop († c. 549))
SAINT FINIAN Bishop ( c. 549) St. Finian was a native of Leinster. After he was instructed in supernatural virtue by the disciples of St. Patrick, he passed over into Wales. He returned to Ireland around 520 and built several monasteries and schools. Because of his sanctity and unity of life, Finian was consecrated Bishop of Clonard. He labored for the salvation of souls; and became all things to all men (1 Cor. 9:22). Bp. Finian passed away around 549. He is one of many great Irish saints who served the Church and raised up Western civilization.
