Our Lady of Guadalupe - Feast
Our Lady of Guadalupe - Feast
1. ReadingBook of Zechariah
2,14-17.]Sing and rejoice, O daughter Zion! See, I am coming to dwell among you, says the LORD.
]Many nations shall join themselves to the LORD on that day, and they shall be his people, and he will dwell among you, and you shall know that the LORD of hosts has sent me to you.
]The LORD will possess Judah as his portion of the holy land, and he will again choose Jerusalem.
]Silence, all mankind, in the presence of the LORD! for he stirs forth from his holy dwelling.
Book of Judith
13,18bcde.19.]Blessed are you, daughter, by the Most High God,
]above all the women on earth;
]and blessed be the LORD God,
]the creator of heaven and earth,
]Your deed of hope will never be forgotten
by those who tell the might of God.
Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke
1,26-38.]In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth,
]to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin's name was Mary.
]And coming to her, he said, "Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you."
]But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.
]Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
]Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus.
]He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father,
]and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end."
]But Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?"
]And the angel said to her in reply, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.
]And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren;
]for nothing will be impossible for God."
]Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." Then the angel departed from her.
St. Valery(Abbot (565-622))
SAINT VALERY Abbot (565-622) St. Valery was born in Auvergne, France. As a child, he tended his father's sheep. He was very young when he took the religious habit in St. Antony's monastery. St. Valery sought to make progress in every virtue and transferred to the more austere monastery of St. Germanus of Auxerre. He then transferred to the monastery of Luxeuil and converted pagans inNeustria. His successful apostolate was the fruit of fervent prayer and a holy life. In time, he assembled fervent disciples and laid the foundation of a monastery. St. Valery passed away on December 12, 622. He is an intercessor, like the Blessed Virgin Mary who asked Jesus to change water to wine during the wedding of Cana (Jn 2:5). He is alive forever and awaits us with the saints in our true native land.
St. Finian(Monastic Founder († c. 549))
SAINT FINIAN Monastic Founder ( c. 549) St. Finian's life tells the story of the Irish Church. He grew up in the spring of Christendom ushered in by St. Patrick. In that milieu, he received formation and became the founder of many monasteries. St. Finian was educated by the bishop in his native Leinster and received further formation in Wales. He returned to Leinster in 520, gained the support of its king and established a monastery in Clonard. He transcribed St. Jerome's Vulgate among other work and founded monasteries and schools. He trained thousands of disciples who founded monasteries and centers of higher learning. St. Finian can be credited with bringing literacy and book-making to Ireland. His disciples founded so many monastaries that he is widely accepted as the father of Irish monasticism. He passed away around 549. His monastery in Clonard retained its place of importance in scriptural learning for centuries.
